Life is all about "seasons". In our lives there are seasons, and there are seasons in the life of Destiny Village. Michelle was here for the first season of Destiny Village. She oversaw the buildings being built. She was the "right" person for that season. A lot of credit goes to her for accomplishing so much for being so young and for basically being alone in Haiti. Not long after the buildings were finished, her season was completed. Dennis and Mary were at Destiny Village for the second season. They loved on approximately 12 kids. Along with that, Dennis, though his manual labor and understanding of mechanics, accomplished much. He did the landscaping, built the piers, set up Haitian electric, and much more, Dennis and Mary were the "right" people for season two. The third season at Destiny Village began with Pastor Marcel who enlarged the orphanage from 12 to 30 children. Soon after, the DiGiorgio family became part of season three. We took 30 children under our wings. Together we taught them English and a huge number of Christian songs. We established discipline, routines, and jobs along with everything else necessary to raise and nuture the children in the ways of God. We also tweeked the everyday operation of the orphanage trying to make things cost effective and to keep things running smoothly. Most of the time there were only two of us here together, which made taking care of 30 children a huge responsibility. But God gave us the wisdom and strength as needed. As Destiny Village begins a new season, a fourth season, our season comes to an end. We believe that God is raising up the right staff for this new season...one qualified to continue to carry out the vision of Destiny Village. Plans at this time are for our family to return to America sometime in June. The last four years (five for Maria) have been a special time in our lives. We would not trade those years for the world. We will carry away many cherished memories. Destiny Village, along with the people of Haiti, will always have a place in our hearts. The hardest part of leaving will be saying goodbye to our precious kids. We have come to love them as our own. But we know God will continue to keep them in the palm of His hand. We want to thank the Destiny Village Board for the opportunity to minister in Jesus' name. We also thank them for entrusting the lives of 30 children into our care. We did the best we could with the resources God gave us, and we feel the Lord was pleased with our labor. Our work IN Haiti is over, but our work FOR Destiny Village and Haiti is not. We will do all we can stateside to strengthen the hands of those toiling on Haiti's soil. In Christ's Love, |
